The curative Graft-versus-leukemia (GvL) effect, antiviral responses and the detrimental Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD) are the major immunological events after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The focus of our research group are studies on (1) the fundamental mechanisms and early detection of complications after allogeneic SCT (GvHD, relapse, viral infections) and (2) the development of allogeneic immunotherapies to enhance the GvL effect (by minor antigen-specific immunotherapy and the generation of genetically modified T cells). Our studies comprise a broad spectrum of analysis, such as proteomics in body fluids, tetramer monitoring of virus- and transplantation antigen specific immune responses, immunophenotyping, functional T-cell analyses und PCR analyses. We are participating in multiple clinical studies and have strong collaborations with research groups within the MHH, in Germany and internationally.
