Professor Dr. med. Arnold Ganser is an outstanding specialist in hematology, hemostasis, oncology and stem cell transplantation.
Professor Ganser has been head of the Department since 1995.
He is chairman of the German-Austrian AML Trial Group (AMLSG), the German MDS Trial Group and 2008 chairman of the International Members Committee of the American Society of Hematology.
He is also a member of the Communications and the Awards Committees of the American Society of Hematology. Furthermore, he is editor-in-chief of the Annals of Hematology.

Clinical Profile

The Department of Hematology, Hemostasis, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation of Hannover Medical School is a nationally and internationally known institution with more than 50 physicians, psychologists, scientists, and many additional specialists including nurses for inpatient and outpatient care, laboratory technicians, documentalists, trial managers, and secretarial and administrative personnel.

Our Department has a hematologic-oncologic intensive care unit (28  beds), a ward for bone marrow and stem cell transplantation in adults (20 beds), treatment facilities in an interdisciplinary oncology unit (5 beds), an outpatient unit for chemo- and immunotherapy and transfusions (12 treatment chairs), several highly specialized outpatient clinics, laboratories for hematology, hemostasis, cytology and FACS analysis of blood and bone marrow cells, and molecular genetics, as well as several research laboratories.
All wards fulfill the highest criteria for infection prophylaxis with high-efficiency air filtration and positive pressure air conditioning.

Our patients receive optimal individual diagnostic work-ups and treatment carried out in cooperation with all the other medical and surgical disciplines at the MHH according to current medical guidelines.
With the most sophisticated diagnostic tools and regular meetings of the tumor board we design individual therapies for each patient to achieve the best treatment results possible: recovery, extension of life of a good quality, pain control.

The purpose of our research is the continuous improvement of treatment results for our patients based on a rapid transfer from bench to bedside.
