Monday, March 26, 20.30 h, Hanns-Lilje-Platz 2, in the center of historic Hannover.
The Gothic Marktkirche St. Georgii et Jacobi in the center of Hannover was completed around 1350 and is a remarkable example of a Gothic church built from hand-made bricks.
It is unique in its pure and austere Gothic appearance, which was established during the church´s reconstruction after World War II that omitted all elements in other styles that had been added over the centuries and uncovered the brickwork in its natural colour.
The organ of the Marktkirche was built into the reconstructed church in 1953/54 and comprises 61 stops on four manuals and the pedals.
The organ front is a unique and landmarked example of organ building in the fifties of the last century.
The Marktkirche is the central site of church music in Hannover. The concert given for the participants of the congress will be played by the organist of the Marktkirche, Ulfert Smidt, and will cover organ music of five centuries from Sweelinck (1562 - 1621), Buxtehude(1637 - 1707) and Bach (1685 -1750) to Liszt (1811 -1886) and Zsolt Gardonyi (born in 1946).
Please Reserve tickets (€ 5.-) when you register for the congress or purchase them at the congress desk.
