Prof. Dr. Thomas Illig, Scientific Director of the Hannover Unified Biobank, was elected Deputy Speaker of the GBA and the German Biobank Node (GBN) by the German Biobank Alliance (GBA). The GBN is the central cooperation platform for the German biobank community and represents the interests of the German biobanks in the European biobank network BBMRI-ERIC. Under the GBN umbrella, eleven biobank sites and two IT development centers in the GBA are working together to make biomaterials available to various biobanks nationally and internationally for biomedical research. GBN and GBA are funded by the BMBF from 2017 - 2020 for a period of three years.
