The goal of the new project "MHH-HIB" of the Hannover Unified Biobank HUB, the central biobank of the MHH, is to establish a widely accessible, high-quality bio sample collection at the MHH in close cooperation with the clinics of the MHH.
The collection should ensure the future access of all MHH researchers to high-quality biosamples of well-characterized patient groups and be available for cooperative research projects for MHH researchers and external cooperation partners. Participating clinics receive exclusive and free access to a portion of the aliquot of each sample they have collected. The remaining aliquots go into the "MHH-HIB" collection and are available for cooperative projects.
Requests for biosamples from the "MHH-HIB" collection are evaluated by an MHH access committee. This access committee protects MHH-internal research interests and refuses to release the samples in case of conflicts of interest.
Since HUB can only prepare and store a limited number of samples per year, not all MHH patients can be included in this project. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out a selection process for which interested clinics can apply.
The application process for 2018 has already been completed. Ten projects of the MHH were selected, starting from January 2018 with the recruitment.
