IDDM (LEW.1AR1-iddm) Rat

An new animal model of human T1DM

 

The IDDM (LEW.1AR1-iddm) rat is a new animal model of human T1DM (Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus) which developed through a spontaneous mutation within a Mhc-congenic LEW.1AR1 colony. The IDDM rat closely resembles the diabetic syndrome in humans. The animals show a fully developed cellular immune system and no sex bias in the diabetes incidence.
