Transparency in Research

The Hannover Medical School (MHH) is one of the leading research medical universities in Germany (Funding Atlas of the German Research Foundation, 2018). Our researchers are committed to making tomorrow’s medicine a success story by combining top research skills with a high level of social responsibility. In research, freedom and responsibility are two sides of the same coin. The German Basic Law guarantees and stipulates both.

The MHH is fully committed to the Guidelines on Research Transparency of the “LandesHochschulKonferenz” (in German only) and the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. Transparency is guaranteed by continuously updated and easily accessible information on current research projects. The MHH Commission of Research Ethics ensures that the ethical aspects of research projects are followed and respected.

More information is provided here:

  • Transparency on funding: Annually, basic data on funding of current research projects are published on December 1st.
  • Transparency on research projects: Short summaries of completed research projects are presented in the annual MHH Research Report (so far, in German only), if not prohibited for confidentiality reasons.
  • Transparency on ethical issues: The Commission of Research Ethics provides expertise on all ethical issues arising in context with research projects.
  • Transparency in communication: Periodically, selected research projects are disclosed at specific symposia, press conferences, and open house presentations. Furthermore, the “Patient University” provides information on diseases and most current treatment options to the public.
