Synopsis

Herpesviruses persist for the life time of an infected individual. In immunocompromised patients they can cause severe and life-threatening disease. Kaposi’s Sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), or human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8), is the cause of Kaposi Sarcoma, primary effusion lymphoma, the plasma cell variant of multicentric Castleman’s Disease in immunocompromised or elderly patients. We want to understand how the virus succeeds in maintaining its latent genome in the nucleus of infected cells without the latter being eliminated by the immune system. We also study how this virus disturbs physiological angiogenesis.
