Synopsis

The department of clinical neuroimmunology and neurochemistry is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with neuroimmunological diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and NMO spectrum diseases, autoimmune encephalitis, immune neuropathies or myasthenia gravis including the conduction of clinical trials. We also analyse cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in our own lab. The interests of the basic science lab are the molecular and cellular mechanisms of regeneration in the central nervous system (CNS). Focuses are glia cells and myelin. The immunological focuses are microglia, the cells of the native immune system in the CNS, and the interaction of glia with T cells. There are intensive cooperations with the PhD program of the Center for Systems Neuroscience (ZSN) and to other groups at the MHH, the Veterinary School (TiHo) and the Helmholtz Center for Infection research (HZI).
