Bacterial pneumonia, host-pathogen interaction, models of pulmonary comorbidity, pulmonary fibrosis
Bacterial infections of the lung are associated worldwide with high morbidity and mortality. In preclinical infection models of pneumococcal pneumonia, we aim to characterize pulmonary host defense mechanisms to develop novel adjuvant therapeutic and preventive strategies with clinical relevance. Moreover, we are interested in the pathomechanisms of infection- induced fibrosis exacerbation in preclinical pulmonary comorbidity models.
