Practical Training / Elective at the MHH

Short-term Practical Clinical or Research Training or Elective at the MHH

Please send your application directly to Ms. Cornelia Ziegler (ziegler.corneliamh-hannover.de) at the International Office.

If you are planning a 4 to 6-week practical clinical training (Famulatur) or a short-time reseach training at Hannover Medical School (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover - MHH), you will find the list of all clinical departments at www.mh-hannover.de. Please send your an application letter to Ms. Ziegler about 5 months in advance. The best time is from July to September, when german students are on summer vacation.

Please specify the following:

  • your name
  • your home university, city, country
  • the institute/clinic you would like to apply to
  • (exact) dates of your intended stay
  • level of German (B2 is required)

Please attach:

  • letter of motivation
  • CV
  • enrolement certificate of your university
  • letter of the dean of your faculty, stating in which year you are studying
  • valid health certificate and anamnesis questionnaire (both documents need to be signed by your local physician and returned to Ms. Ziegler at least 2 months before your arrival)

Please consider that patients speak German only, and clinical conferences, ward rounds etc. take place in German even if most doctors speak English. The better you know German, the more you will profit from your stay at the MHH.

Accommodation can be offered to Free Movers by the Studentenwerk Hannover in one of the MHH-dormitories, provided there are vacancies. Unfortunately, the MHH is not able to offer you any kind of financial support or meals free-of-charge.

The following insurances will be mandatory:

  • personal health insurance
  • personal liability insurance
  • malpractice insurance
  • accident insurance

Last, but not least: Please consider that you will need a visa if you are a non-EU-citizen (e.g. from Turkey), and the application procedure may take several months.

We will check the availabilty of training spots and let you know, whether we can offer you a place.

A good alternative for foreign medical students wishing to do clinical training in Germany is to apply to the Professional Exchange Program of the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations). Besides the organisation of your practical training by the German partner organization BVMD, you will get free-of-charge accommodation and sometimes even pocket-money. The local BVMD group of medical students arranges leisure activities for foreign incomings and takes care of them during their stay.
