The Institute of Biochemistry at the Medical School Hannover invites applications for an undergraduate (Ph.D. student) position.
Based in the laboratory of Professor Gaestel the candidate will join an interactive and international team studying the molecular mechanisms of inflammation and oncogenesis with particular focus on posttranscriptional regulation. Our specific aims are to understand the regulation of the inflammatory response and the regulation of cytokine production by MAP Kinases Activated Protein Kinases (MAPKAPKs or MKs). For background information see: Gaestel Nat Rev. Mol. Cell Biol. 7, 120.
Applicants for the Ph.D. student position must possess a Masters degree
(or Diploma) in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry. The project will involve cell culture techniques, protein and RNA isolation, immunocytochemistry, molecular cloning as well as yeast two-hybrid systems and in vivo mouse experiments. An accurate, organized, reliable and increasingly independent working manner will be a requirement. Experience in basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, western/ northern/ southern blots, culturing and transfection of cells) is an advantage.
Applications including CV and names of 2-3 referees should be sent electronically to Prof. Dr. Matthias Gaestel at the Medical School Hannover, Department of Biochemistry OE 4310, Carl-Neuberg-Str.1, 30625 Hannover, Germany,
