Treatment focuses at a glance:
- Operative corrections of all infantile congenital and acquired heart defects and vascular anomalies, incl. the treatment of left or right ventricular hypoplasias
- Transplantation of heart, lung and heart-lung
- Application of organ replacement procedures in case of heart and lung failure, like e. g. the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation or the implantation of artificial hearts
- Implantation of pacemakers and antitachycardic pacemaker systems.
MHH is one of the tradition-steeped hospitals for paediatric cardiac surgery in Germany.
Operation spectrum
Our operation spectrum includes all kinds of interventions from the simple funnel chest correction to the treatment of complex anomalies and finally to the heart and lung transplantation. Concerning the treatment of heart defects with only one ventricle as well as concerning the treatment of diseases of the outflow path of the right ventricle we dispose of an approved expertise.
Biological cardiac valves which grow with the patient
Worldwide we dispose of the most long-lasting and extensive experiences concerning the treatment with novel biological replacement procedures: In our research laboratories we succeeded in developing a biological cardiac valve, which grows with the patient. In this way future reoperations of children after cardiac valve replacements can be reduced.
Taking care of critical patients
For the most difficult cases all kinds of special respiration are at our disposal, like ECMO and artificial lungs.
Proximity to the adult clinic
Our young patients profit by the close proximity to the paediatric clinic of the MHH. Nevertheless we keep ready capacities for operations within the adult surgery, in case that interventions due to congenital heart defects become necessary after reaching the adulthood.
