Profile of the Program | The Master´s program aims at imparting research competence to students of biomedicine. The program qualifies students to enter biomedical Ph.D. programs or take on jobs related to biomedical research. The research-oriented consecutive Master´s program in biomedicine extends over 4 terms and starts in October.
The program builds on a completed bachelor´s degree in biology or related fields. It focusses mainly on the acquisition of research skills. Areas of study are theoretical as well as methodological knowledge in the overlapping fields of medicine and biology. The program´s main aim is to train the students´ ability to develop research concepts, to obtain and treat experimental data and to communicate them in both German and English.
The core disciplines of this Master´s program are cell and molecular biology, infection biology and pathophysiology/pharmacology:
The Universities of the Hannover region cooperate exceptionally closely with each other as well as with non-University research institutions and biomedical firms in the area. This provides a wide spectrum of innovative and up-to-date training possibilities to students of biomedicine.

Summary of the Agency’s evaluation | The commissions of the evaluation agency ZEvA have pronounced full accreditation of this Master´s program on the basis of a review of the written proposal and an on-site reviewing process.
The Master´s Program in Biomedicine in Hannover enables students to benefit from many collaborative links with several universities and other research institutions. The Medical School is part of 4 Centers of Competence and 5 Specialized Research Projects (Sonderforschungsbereiche); it maintains 5 Clinical Research Groups and 2 DFG Research Groups, and it offers 4 Graduate Programs to MD-PhD students, one of which is on a European level. In addition to the Medical School, a Technical University and a Veterinary School are located in Hannover. All three Universities cooperate closely, in research as well as in joint study programs such as the Bachelor´s Program in Biology. After completing this latter degree, students may opt to carry on with this Master´s Program.
The core disciplines of the program (cell and molecular biology, infection biology, pathophysiology/pharmacology) focus on major areas of research at the the Medical School and thus provide students with the opportunity to share expertise and facilities. Graduates from this research-oriented biomedical study program will be well-placed to apply for PhD programs and later on for research positions.
The Master´s Program in Biomedicine offers a highly attractive study program in an excellent scientific environment combining high scientific standard with optimal access to PhD programs as well as job possibilities in the biomedical area. Students generally work in well-funded laboratories where they receive the benefits of support and advice from a large team of experienced researchers and technicians and are directly involved in the mainstream research of the Departments. |
