DA

Genotype:

Pigmention genes: AA BB CC HH PP RR

Mhc: RT1 av1(RT1.AaB/DaCav1)

Erythrocyte antigenes: RT2 b RT8 b

Lymphocyte antigenes: RT6 b RT7 a

Inbr. Gen.: At Ztm (1998), F96.

Origin: Inbred from heterogeneous stocks with unknown antecedents. 376 suggest that it may be related to COP. From Wistar Institute to Oxf in 1963 (Williams, pers. comm). To Han in 1972, to Ztm 1994.

Reproduction: Moderate reproductive performance with 0,53 young/female/litter.

Tumours (Spontaneous): Incidence of urinary bladder tumours 54% in male and 14% in female DA/Han rats. Peak incidence between 25 and 30 months of age (2).

Other Characteristics: Susceptible to induction of autoimmune thyroiditis (11). Defective bile acid transport found in females; might serve as a model for debrisoquine hydroxylation deficiency in man (10). Glomerular filtration rate (gfr) and renal plasma flow (rpf) compared in several inbred strains. DA rats are highly susceptible to induction of chronic and acute arthritis by rat collagen II an incomplete adjuvant, with differential patterns and T cell involvement (6, 7, 9). Gfr of DA/Ztm, 2.26 ml/min; rpf, 5.26 ml/min (4). Hematological parameters and their relation to diet described by Hackbarth et al. (6) for DA/Ztm and several other inbred strains. The major histocompatibility complex has been described (3, 7, 12), the genetic maker profile described by Bender et al. (1).
