BH

Colour: Black-hooded (a, B, C, h).

Genotype:

    Pigmentation genes: aa BB CC hh Mhc: RT1l(RT1.AlB/DlCl) Erythrocyte antigens: RT2 a RT3 b RT8 b Lymphocyte antigens: RT6 b RT7 b

Inbr. Gen.: At Ztm (1998), F38.

Origin: D. Wilson, University of Pennsylvania, from unknown stock. To Dml, who transferred animals to University of Iowa in 1973.

Reproduction: At Ztm, good reproductive performance; average litter size 7.0±3.2. Interval between litters 37.4 ± 19 days with peaks between 23 and 33 days and at 58 days.

Characteristics: Used with LEW and congenic strains to define alloantigenic systems RT6 and RT7 (3, 8, 9, 10). Not susceptible to induction of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (4,7; Wonigeit pers. comm.). This nonsusceptibility appears to be controlled by genes not linked to the major histocompatibility complex (RT1) (4, 11). Glomerular filtration rate (gfr) and renal plasma flow (rpf) compared in several inbred strains. Gfr of BH/Ztm, 2.44 ml/min; rpf, 3.55 ml/min (5). Hematologic parameters and their relation to diet described by Hackbarth et al. (6) in BH/Ztm and several other strains. Biochemical genetic marker profile described by Bender et al. (1, 2).
