BDIX

Genotype:

Pigmentation genes: AA BB CC HH PP RR

Mhc: RT1 d (RT1.AdB/DdCdv1)

Erythrocyte antigens: RT2 b RT8 b

Lymphocyte antigens: RT6 b RT7 a

Inbr. Gen.: At Ztm (1998), F66.

Origin: Druckrey from a cross between BDI and BDVIII with subsequent selection of brother-sister pairs for agouti coat colour and dark, pigmented eyes, to Han in Fx+20 (1979), to Ztm 1994.

Reproduction: Fair reproductive performance; average number weaned per female per week 0.72.

Tumours (Induced): Widely used strain in carcinogenesis and teratogenesis studies. Highly susceptible to transplacental induction of malignant tumours of the nervous system by ethyl nitrosourea (2, 3). Leukemia L5222, a monocytic-myeloid leukemia, which was induced by ethyl nitrosourea, is transplantable and serves as a model for chemotherapy (4).

Other Characteristics: Does not express RT1.B, apparently because it lacks the appropriate structural or controlling gene (6). Hematologic parameters described by Lovell et al. (5) for BDIX/Lac and several other inbred strains.Genetic marker profile described by Bender et al. (1).
