Origin: University of Otago Medical School, Dunedin, New Zealand, from outbred Wistar rats (9). Might be a subline of GH, with which it is histocompatible (5).

Reproduction: Good reproductive performance.

Characteristics: Hypertensive, although blood pressure not as high as in GH (5). Glomerular filtration rate (gfr) and renal plasma flow (rpf) compared in several inbred strains. Gfr of AS/Ztm, 1.73 ml/min; rpf, 4.13 ml/min (3). Hematological parameters and their relation to diet described by Hackbarth et al. (4) for AS/Ztm and several other inbred strains. Susceptible to development of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (6). Susceptible to induction of autologous immune complex glomerulonephritis, possibly associated with the major histocompatibility complex (RT1) (8). Low antibody response to phytohemagglutinin; not linked to RT1 (7). Genetic marker profile described by Bender et al. (1).
